Under no circumstances should anyone enter the water while the equipment is in operation. Choosing the proper cord length is a very important, and often overlooked aspect in selecting a floating fountains, pond aerator, or water circulator. All Kasco Floating Fountains, Pond Aerators, and Water Circulators are ETL approved to UL and CSA standards. Part of this approval is that each Floating Fountain, Pond Aerator, or Water Circulator has a specific serial number and that the cord included with the motor has a serial number that matches the motor. Therefore, to follow the ETL approval, it is vital to select the proper cord length when ordering your Kasco Floating Fountain, Pond Aerator, or Water Circulator. The most common factor not considered is the depth of the pond. The power cord is weighted so it will sink and sit on the bottom. To select the proper cord length, it is important to calculate the depth of the pond where the unit will be floating, along with the length from where the unit will be in the pond to the power source on the shore (make sure to take into account the height of the power source on a pole). A general calculation is: Cord Length Needed = Depth + Length from Unit to Shore + Length from Shore to Power Source + Height of Power Source You must also keep in mind the amount of slope in the pond and that it may affect the cord length needed. Example: My pond is 15 feet at the deepest point, however, I want the unit floating in 10 feet of water. The unit will be 100 feet from shore and the power source is 45 feet from shore on a 4' tall pole. Cord Length = 10' (Depth) + 100' (Unit to Shore) + 45' (Shore to Power) +4' (Pole height) Cord Length = 159' Since Kasco cord lengths are available from 50' to 200' in 50' increments, you would need 200' for this example. When you are just under a 50' increment cut off, it is usually a good idea to go one increment greater than calculated. This allows you the flexibility to move the unit if needed and also extra cord in case of a miscalculation of cord length needed. It is very important to not extend the cord beyond 200'. It will void the factory warranty on the equipment, void the ETL approval, and could also cause a malfunction with the GFI breaker in the control panel. If you have questions, you can consult your local distributor or a friendly Kasco representative.
